It’s time again for #LeaveNoTraceTuesday and Principle 6: Respect Wildlife. It can be a really special experience to see an animal in its natural habitat. We should remember that we are visitors in their home, and should observe animals quietly and from a safe distance. Feeding wildlife damages their health and can alter their natural behaviors. Many animals and other organisms are struggling to survive the harsh desert environment, and additional stress can lead to their demise. We were there in November 2017 and the ravens were especially persistent, which sadly indicates that they’ve successfully gotten plenty of food from visitors in the past. One even landed on our side view mirror as we sat in the car after a hike in the Needles. That was cool to see but the reason for it is quite sad.
