The edges of Tioga Road are beginning to pop with color! One of the flowers you may see if you glance out the car window is the mountain pride (Penstemon newberryi). These showy magenta flowers are beloved by nectar drinkers. This white-lined sphinx moth flies from flower to flower, hovering midair drinking its sweet nectar. Because of its size and rapid wing-beats this moth is often confused for a hummingbird, giving it the nickname hummingbird moth. Hovering flight requires a great deal of energy which is why these moths seek flowers that produce nectar with a high sugar content. I saw Hummingbird Moth’ in Modoc too. Very interesting they exist in this State. Anyhow nice photos both of the flowers and the Hummingbird Moth.

I plan to visit next week.

From last Saturday. There was really a lot of it on both sides of the road for miles and miles, didn't get any pics of the roadside but it made the whole drive nice though. Really vibrant color.

I love Yosemite, and miss you Yosemite.

Beautifully presented

I have been feeding birds all year long and I get to see their beauty. Pigeons, red birds, black birds, etc. I love animals and I am glad I can do this for these birds. ❤🐦🐔🐥🦆🦅

My contribution 💕🌺

love these pictures.

Just lovely.

Fabulous little being!

Took this shot on Thursday!

Love the Penstemon

We were wondering what they were! Came over Tioga to the valley last Monday.

So pretty.

Great catch on the moth. I’ve only seen them on two occasions. ❤️

We have lots of the here in Santa Monica! Do you know if the sting or bite! Sometimes the get caught in our garage.

Yay! Will be driving down there next week.

Beautiful!

If you enjoy native CA plants, you'll love this guy's YouTube channel. He speaks mostly in a humorous Chicago mob boss accent but in reality he has no accent. He knows his plants and geology.

Very nice

The Mountain is calling and I must go.

Just beautiful

Cool... his cousins live in the Eastern US!

We've been restoring Ahwahnee Meadow to its natural condition. We've removed a drainage ditch, an old road, sand pits (for the former golf course), and fill. Now, we're removing the abandoned tennis courts and restoring that area to a black oak woodland.
